An update on service provision in Sheffield during the Stagecoach Yorkshire strike from Sunday 12 December until Saturday 18 December.

Stagecoach Yorkshire’s Commercial Director has advised they plan to provide some journeys in Sheffield on services 1, 25, 57 and 88. These are designed to cater for areas where Stagecoach is the only operator; for example High Green and Stocksbridge.

Service 57 will operate broadly hourly during the day between Sheffield and Stocksbridge Leisure Centre. The latest information and timetables for the above services are available at https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/yorkshire/industrial-action.

Timetable information will be added to the website at https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/newsupdates/service-changes as soon as possible and also on Stagecoach’s social media messages to keep customers updated.

Information via will be posted via social media channels on Twitter @TSYalerts and @TravelSYorks. Customers without access to the internet or social media can call Traveline on 01709 51 51 51 for the latest information.

Senior Citizens Christmas Party
This year the Town Council held a very much reduced, socially distanced Christmas Party for the Senior Citizens of the area. Afternoon tea was served instead of the usual meat & potato pie and entertainment was limited to bingo and raffle, rather than the choir/singers in past years. However, despite the restrictions, everyone seemed to enjoy the event and the chance to get out and meet up with friends. Here's hoping that next Christmas we are back to even more normality and we can see the return of hot food and Christmas entertainment.

REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE
Despite the weather there was a great turn out in Stocksbridge on 14th November for the Remembrance Day Parade and service at the Clock Tower.

11am ON THE 11th DAY OF THE 11th MONTH
This morning an outdoor Remembrance Service was held at St Mary's Church, Bolsterstone.
The Mayor, Cllr Richard Crowther and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Joe Staniforth, attended to lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Bolsterstone.
Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir sang a very moving rendition of Bring Him Home.

SENIOR CITIZENS CHRISTMAS PARTY

This year's Christmas Party will be held on Wednesday, 8th December at The Venue commencing at 12 noon. Due to the ongoing pandemic the event will be scaled down in number and will be in the form of an Afternoon Tea rather than the traditional hot meal.

Councillors will be issuing tickets in Stocksbridge Town Hall on Tuesday, 23rd and Thursday, 25th November between 10am and 12 noon.

Proof of Covid booster vaccination must be provided when collecting tickets

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!
The poppies are back on display in the Clock Tower Memorial gardens, in honour of all who fought and lost their lives in past conflicts.

Bus Service Changes

Effective from 30th October, the SL1 and SL1a – Monday to Saturday daytime frequency reduced from every 12 minutes to 3 buses per hour. Sunday frequency reduced from every 20 minutes to 2 buses per hour, due to a shortage of bus drivers.

School Council

Deepcar St John's School Council recently attended the Town Hall to hold their School Council meeting in the Council Chamber. The Mayor was invited to the meeting to talk to children about the role of the Mayor and to answer some very interesting questions.

Local Area Committees are a new way for people in Sheffield to make a difference in their communities. Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Bolsterstone are part of the North LAC. Have your say in what you would like for your community by completing the short survey below:

Bus service cancellations in South Yorkshire

As a result of the current national driver shortage, local bus operators are having to cancel journeys on a daily basis on a number of their services across the region as they struggle with resources.

SYPTE are working with the operators on how they can manage the situation in a structured way and minimise the impact on users by prioritising infrequent services and home to school journeys over higher frequency routes.

These cancellations can be sporadic and confusing to customers so to ensure customers can stay up to date with the latest changes, our Disruptions page is constantly being updated to reflect service cancellations at travelsouthyorkshire.com/Disruptions.

Bus operators are tweeting cancellation notices which we are retweeting on our @TSYalerts Twitter feed.

First South Yorkshire is also keeping customers updated via their web pages as follows:

Stagecoach is also keeping customers updated via their website at: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/regional-service-updates/yorkshire

In the first instance it is recommended that customers check service availability via the above links before they travel and make alternative arrangements where required.

Alternatively, customers who do not have access to the internet or social media can call Traveline on 01709 51 51 51 for the latest information. It is likely that journeys available directly after a cancelled journey will be busy and may be delayed as a result.
