A switch-on ceremony is held on the 1st
Friday in December in the Town Centre, with the Mayor carrying
out the official lighting up ceremony. Father Christmas is
usually in attendance to hand out sweets to the Children and
Christmas Carols are played by Deepcar Brass Band.
The Town Council illuminate Bolsterstone
and provide a tree in Deepcar as well as illuminating the Town
Centre.
The event has been held for over 10 years
and is well attended by the local residents.
The lights are a welcome attraction to the area and receive many
positive comments from the community and visitors to the Town.
Best Decorated House Competition 2007
The Mayor, Cllr. Jack Clarkson toured the area the week before
Christmas and was pleased to present Christmas Hampers to the
owners of the following two homes as winners of the Town
Council's Best Decorated House competition:-
19 Smithymoor Avenue, Stocksbridge
19 Royd Lane, Deepcar

The 2007 Switch On was well attended considering it was very
cold and windy, particularly by the younger children some of
whom passed on cards to Santa.
The Town Council wish to extend a special thank you to

festive music and also to Paul
Kaye for ensuring that Father Christmas arrived on time.
