Citizens Award
Each quarter one person/group will be nominated and presented
with a certificate and £50 of gift vouchers with the details and photo opportunity being
presented to the local press. Criteria for the nominations is as follows:-
a) the proposer cannot remain anonymous
b) the nominees must be local residents
c) the nominees can be of any age
d) the award is for services to the community
Nominations can be presented to the office either by letter,
email or phone. A winner will be decided at the Recreation
and Environment Committee meeting and the winner will be invited
to receive the award at the following Town Council.
Young Citizens Award - 2011
The Town Council will present a Young Citizens Award annually
to compliment the existing Citizens Award, to a young
person nominated by Stocksbridge High School, based on work they
carry out for the benefit of the community over and above what
is expected of them as a pupil.
The student nominated will be presented with a certificate and
£50 of gift vouchers with the details and photo opportunity
being presented to the local press.
Citizens Award - Winter 2011
The Citizen's Award for Winter was presented to Yvonne Bland
for the voluntary work she had undertaken throughout her life,
being part of the Expert Elders team, Scout/Guide leader the
majority of her life and valuable member of the Trefoil Guild.
She has also undertaken many sponsored walks and bike rides for
the under privileged and contributed to the publication of the
Expert Elders Newsletter. Her services to St John's Church
are invaluable being involved with children's groups and part of
the Life Style Matters group for the over 65's for some years.

Citizens Award - Autumn 2011
The Citizen's Award for Autumn was presented to Catherine
Cotterill for the voluntary work she has undertaken running the
Stocksbridge Netball Team for the past 30 years, training
youths/young leaders, umpiring and being both Treasurer and
Secretary for the Group.

Young Citizens Award - Summer 2011
The winner of the first Young Citizens Award was presented to
Isobelle Cottyn for being involved in a wide range of activities
both within the community and with school fund raising events.
Isobelle is a very worthy winner of the first Young Citizens
Award.

Citizen's Award - Summer 2011
The Citizen's Award was awarded to Graham and Dorothy Shaw
for the tremendous amount of work they do tending the area of
land at the bottom of Haywood Lane, Deepcar on behalf of the In
Bloom Group.

Citizen's Award - Spring 2011
The Citizen's Award was awarded to Dave Goodison, recently
retired from Don Valley Railway Group, for all his tremendous
efforts over the years in the plight to bring rail travel to the
area.

Citizen's Award - Winter 2010
The Citizen's Award was awarded to Tracey Nicholls for the
continuous work she carries out with the Stocksbridge Fire
Cadets, in particular with her fund raising efforts and the
tireless amount of time given to the fund raising events.

Citizen's Award - Autumn 2010
The Citizen's Award was awarded to Paul Mannion for the
tremendous amount of time and effort he has dedicated to the
refurbishment of the Scout Hut on Nanny Hill.

Citizen's Award - Summer 2010
The Citizen's Award was awarded to David Walters, a volunteer
driver on the Stocksbridge Door-2-Door service, for the courtesy
he shows to passengers assisting with carrying shopping to their
doors, helping wheelchair users and always carrying out his work
in a patient and cheerful way.
Citizen's Award - Spring 2010
The Citizen's Award was awarded to Jean Hague in recognition
of her services in the provision of the DASH Luncheon Club.
