propose to dispose of the public car park section of Lidl car

Census 2011 - Feb 2011
March the 27th
2011 is the date set for the next “once a decade” census to take
place. The information gathered is invaluable and is used by
various organisations in strategic planning. It allows
comparisons to be made about the population, and is used for
example, to plan where new housing needs to be built, or where
new or upgraded roads are required because more people are
commuting to work. The location of leisure centres, cinemas,
schools, hospitals, fire stations, shops, even the food stocked
in supermarkets is planned using this information. It is also a
fantastic source of historical information used by genealogists
and people tracing their family tree. Everyone has the right
and is legally obliged to be included on a census
questionnaire. Personal information is never shared with any
other government department, nationally, regionally or locally.
The information collected is kept confidential by ONS protected
by law, and remains confidential for 100 years. The census can
be completed and returned on the form you receive through the
post or on line. Find out more at:
www.census.gov.uk.

WOULD YOU LIKE
TO BE A SNOW WARDEN?
The City Council are looking for public spirited people to
volunteer to be Snow Wardens and help with snow clearing of
footways and minor roads in extreme Winter weather.
The
council has stockpiled 24,000 tonnes of salt, 50 per cent more
than the 16,000 tonnes stored last Autumn and another 4,000
tonnes has been secured. This is as much as was used last
Winter ie 28,000 tonnes, which was the worst Winter for 30
years.
The
Government has a reserve stock of 250,000 tonnes at Highways
Agency depots but Councils are still expected to stock up to the
level used last year, which is what Sheffield has done.
However,
despite these reserves and the Council's Winter Services Plan to
tackle extreme Winter weather, every little helps and this is
where Snow Wardens come in to help in their local communities.
Snow
Wardens will be delivered a 1 tonne bag of salt to a pre agreed
location near where they live to treat minor roads and footpaths
and encouraged to get their friends and neighbours to help.
People
who are Snow Wardens or people who clear snow outside their
homes should not be sued by any passer-by who slips on a treated
surface, those claims would be dealt with by the Council's
public liability insurance.
Snow
Wardens will need to attend a health and safety induction
session (1 hour), sign a Fit to Participate Declaration form and
will be provided with a shovel, gloves and a high
visibility vest to ensure they operate safely.
If anyone
is interested in becoming a Snow Warden please ring the
Council's Contact Centre on (0114) 273 4567 or email Street
Force on
streetforce@sheffield.gov.uk.
