Each year the Town Council award grants to many projects to assist local groups in the area. Any group which holds a constitution and serves the residents of Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Bolsterstone is eligible to apply for a grant.


Any groups wishing to apply for a grant will need to make reference to the Town Council's grants policy and complete a grant application form. Both documents can be downloaded via the links below or a copy obtained from the office.

The Town Council also have an arrangement with Sheffield Community Transport to provide a minibus and driver to groups for outings. ​ Groups can apply to the Town Council for a transport grant of up to £300.00 per annum. Once again details of the group, a copy of its constitution and a set of accounts is reqwauired by the Town Council. ​

The Town Council are also part of the Sheffield Lakeland Landscape Partnership Community Grant Scheme. More details about this funding source can be found here

Grant Policy and Guidelines​

In 2005 the Town Council launched a Citizens Award Scheme whereby local residents are nominated for their services to the community. Details of recent winners are posted on this site. If you wish to nominate a person/group or see winners from previous years please contact the office.



The Mayor, Cllr. Joe Staniforth presented a certificate and cheque to the Friends of Oxley Park group, one of the winners of the Town Council's Annual Citizens Awards, for ​the ongoing work at Oxley Park creating refurbished recreational facilities for the community.

The Mayor, Cllr. Richard Crowther presented a certificate and cheque to the Stocksbridge and Deepcar Litter Pickers Group, one of the winners of the Town Council's Annual Citizens Awards, for their ​community spirit and commitment to tackling the ever increasing litter problems around the area during the pandemic.

Queens Platinum Jubilee - June 2022

Following an invitation to the local senior citizens groups/homes and constituted groups to apply to a small pot of funding to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Town Council was pleased to award the following groups towards their events:-

W.I. - £200

Towards an event to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee

Bolsterstone Village Hall Trust - £165

Towards decoration of the Village Hall with appropriate memorabilia/flags as part of a Cream Tea event, open to the ​public, as part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Balfour House - £200

Towards a buffet and afternoon fun for 35 tenants at Balfour House

Helliwell Court - £200

Towards a buffet and afternoon fun for 40 tenants at Helliwell Court

Newton Grange - £200

Towards bunting and flags and a bench for the gardens at Newton Grange

Valley Recreational Community Activity Project - £200

Towards an English Tea Party with entertainment for 120 isolated and lonely people (19 and over) to be held at Wortley Hall

Hazey Dayz Childminding - £50

To celebrate with the children and also put on a street party

Bolsterstone Community Group - £200

Towards the lighting of the Bolsterstone Beacon as part of other activities planned in the village

Belmont Care and Nursing Home - £200

Towards a tea party for both residents and their families, to purchase bunting, cake stands, tablecloths and flags with entertainment by a singer throughout the afternoon

Early STEPS Nursery - £200

To​wards a garden party, flags and raffle prizes for the children

The Meeting Place at Christ Church - £150

Towartds a garden party/afternoon tea with lawn games, music and other activities for its 40 members​

A grant of £2000 was awarded to FRIENDS of Oxley Park towards planting a small orchard behind Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre with a plaque to commemorate the Queens Platinum Jubilee, to be enjoyed by the whole community

A grant of £500 was awarded to Stocksbridge Photographic Society towards the provision of a programme of speakers for 2022/23

A grant of £850 was awarded to Valley Music Festival towards this year's planned music events to celebrate and showcase local talent

A grant of £1000 was awarded to Stocksbridge & District Pentaqua Swimming Club for assistance towards this year's Annual Open Spring Gala

A grant of £1000 was awarded to Upper Don Renewable Energy Ltd towards the purchase of a thermal imaging camera.

A grant of £460 was awarded to Stocksbridge & District History Society towards the purchase of 2x Beelink GK55 mini desltop PC 4-cores processors to assist visitors to the museum searching through archives and family history records.

A grant of £60 was awarded to the Royal British Legion for the purchase of a Rowan tree to be planted in the Clock Tower Gardens to mark the 100th Anniversary of The Royal British Legion 1921-2021.

A grant of £500 was awarded to Strideout Stocksbridge Running Club for assistance towards the training of run leaders and equipment.

A grant of £700 was awarded to Steel Valley Beacon Arts towards the performance of radio plays via Zoom and YouTube.
